Summit Experience

The Summit Experience is the premier on-site high adventure program of the Summit Bechtel Reserve. Open to Scouts and Venturers age 13 and older, it offers a week filled with adventure, challenge, and growth in the wild and wonderful mountains of southern West Virginia.

Each day brings something new: climb, rappel, and soar on Alexander’s Eagle Flight or through the canopy course; ride world-class trails on mountain bikes, skateboards, and BMX bikes; sharpen your skills with archery, rifle, and shotgun ranges—or even complete a hunter education course; and take on the rapids of the legendary New River with a thrilling whitewater rafting trip.

No other program combines this variety of activities in one unforgettable week. The Summit Experience isn’t just high adventure—it’s adventure at the next level.

Marksman Experience

The Marksman Experience is a week-long trek that includes a 4-day professional shooting course. Guests are introduced to basic firearm safety and education while being immersed in these exciting competitive shooting disciplines: Steel Challenge, Sporting Clays, 5-Stand, Precision Rifle Series, Olympic Archery and 3D Archery. The archery activities utilize recurve, compound, and crossbow shooting at stationary, 3D animal, and moving targets. This Trek is great for troops that enjoy skill-based challenges while developing themselves to become better prepared citizens.
